Presenters

Kathryn F. Edgerton (Russo) is a transactional and regulatory attorney with Nelson Hardiman, LLP, a California based healthcare specialty law firm. Ms. Edgerton has developed an extensive niche practice representing behavioral care providers, in addition to representing hospitals, physician organizations, and telemedicine providers.

Ms. Edgerton has successfully obtained licensure, certification, and accreditation for a variety of facilities regulated by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), the California Department of Social Services (DSS), and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), including substance abuse treatment facilities, group homes, adult residential facilities, congregate living health facilities, and home health agencies.

Ms. Edgerton has considerable experience drafting facilities’ patient intake documentation as well as policies and procedures related to licensure, certification, and compliance with privacy and security laws and regulations, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), and California’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA).

Ms. Edgerton is a Certified Information Privacy Professional in U.S. private-sector privacy laws and regulations (CIPP/US), and is Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) by the Compliance Certification Board.  Kathryn is admitted to practice law in both California and New York.



Elizabeth Irias, LMFT is a warm, tenacious, and detail-oriented licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, with specializations in Utilization Review, Clinical Management, and Quality Assurance.  As a consultant, Elizabeth works closely with clinical teams to improve their quality of care and documentation practices.  Her high-level clinical work comes from her passion to improve the quality of care for mental health patients, and she feels strongly that streamlining administrative processes can lead to an improvement in the patient’s treatment experience and the resulting outcome.  She also operates a private practice in Westlake Village where she provides adolescent/young adult therapy, family therapy, and addictive disorder treatment.  In addition, Elizabeth conducts personalized, targeted presentations for educational institutions and area mental health and legal providers as a CAMFT CEPA-approved CE provider, and is a professor in the Graduate Psychology Department at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
